It is the ester of glycerin and stearic acid — an oil-loving (HLB ~3.8) monoglyceride that resembles the skin’s own lipids and leaves a breathable, non-greasy film. On its own it is a water-in-oil emulsifier; paired with a water-loving partner such as polysorbate 60 or cetearyl glucoside, it builds robust oil-in-water creams, adds body, and gives a creamy, opaque finish. Unlike the self-emulsifying SE grade, it contains no soap, so it stays stable with acidic actives and cationic conditioners. It is reviewed as safe by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Panel, even for baby products. In your custom cream, lotion, cleansing cream, or baby lotion, it softens, reduces water loss, and supports the barrier for every skin type. In your conditioner, styling cream, or hair mask, it adds slip, softness, and body for detangling. In your cosmetics, it builds foundations, BB creams, and cream blush with smooth pigment dispersion. In your handmade range, it structures syndet and lotion bars. Customize your cruelty-free, vegan formulation for gentle, skin-like creams.
