Description

Squalane is the hydrogenated, shelf-stable form of squalene — a lipid that makes up about 13% of human sebum and that the skin produces less of after age 30. Because it is chemically identical whether from olive, sugarcane fermentation, or (historically and now avoided) shark liver, squalane is one of the most biomimetic emollients available: it spreads instantly, absorbs without residue, and is odorless, colorless, non-comedogenic, and essentially non-oxidizing.
